Frightening afternoon…
Like many of Stephen King’s other beloved classics, “Later” blends true-to-life coming-of-age elements with unforgettable thrills and chills. Jamie Conklin might seem like an ordinary boy, except for the fact that, for better or worse, he can communicate with the recently deceased. The one thing that’s not frightening about “Later” is its length: you can read it in an afternoon (followed by a sleepless night).
Description
A BRAND-NEW NOVEL FROM LEGENDARY STORYTELLER STEPHEN KING!
SOMETIMES GROWING UP MEANS FACING YOUR DEMONS
The son of a struggling single mother, Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is no ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability his mom urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can see and learn what no one else can learn. But the cost of using this ability is higher than Jamie can imagine-as he discovers when an NYPD detective draws him into the pursuit of a killer who has threatened to strike from beyond the grave.
Later is Stephen King at his finest, a terrifying and touching story of innocence lost and the trials that test our sense of right and wrong. With echoes of King's classic novel, It, Later is a powerful, haunting, unforgettable exploration of what it takes to stand up to evil in all the faces it wears.

This was good and creepy. It's been awhile since I read or listened to a S. King novel.

I am a Stephen King for a long time. This has all the dark humor and descriptive prose I love. On to the next book.

Lots of twists, as always with Mr. King. Perhaps I should have seen it coming... Nope. Enjoy!

Finally, a Stephen King novel that didn’t go completely off the rails at the end; the pay off is that some parts of the story were abruptly/conveniently wrapped up, as though SK wasn’t sure where to go with them. And one scene in particular is a blatant rip off of “The Sixth Sense” (which is a nearly perfect “scary story”).
While I greatly enjoy King’s writing overall, his over-the-top endings generally detract from the otherwise captivating storylines. It’s just too difficult to suspend my disbelief when the story line grows too big. “It” is a perfect example of a book that just ends up tedious and ridiculous rather than scary. My husband has the same complaint regarding King’s writing and waits for me to give his books a nod of approval before he reads them.
Two more notes:
1. The narration is excellent in this short book. In fact, this was some of the best narration of any audiobook I’ve listened to, and I have listened to hundreds, if not more than a thousand.
2. “11/22/63” is another notable exception to the “ridiculous ending” issue and is my favorite piece of King’s writing.

Left me with a lingering ruff of raised neck hair. Isn’t that the goal, Stephen?! Thanks for another great tale- this one will be re-read often as are all your others!

I listen while driving and tend to get distracted by life with most books. Not with this one, it held my attention at every turn! It was exactly the perfect tone and spirit I was looking for. Although it is a horror story, as you'll be reminded in several places, I was more intrigued by Jamie and his various relationships and how everything tied together so neatly. Enjoy!

I’ve been away from reading King, I’m happy to say I enjoyed this book. The humor mixed with horror is the perfect read. Stephen King still possesses the power to draw the reader into the story and not stop til it’s over. Later for sure...

This will be a classic , His best in a long time

The main character keeps reminding you that it's a horror story, but I found it to be less horror and more thriller. It's a well paced novel, and the narrator does a very good job.

I really enjoyed this book. I was about half way through when I couldn’t tell where it would go, and then it just got better. The only reason I gave it less than 5 stars, is because I was somewhat put off by the very end and the uncovering of the main character’s father.

I couldn't stop listening, it was wonderful! I can't think of anything negative to say about it.

I really enjoyed this book a lot, definitely not much horror though. Reminded me a lot of Joyland. Loved the main characters! Would definitely be interested in more books like this!
